Public Announcements

October Greeting from MASFMA President - Yup, you read it right!

    Dear MASTMA dba MASFMA Members,

Happy Fall! We capped off summer with an amazing summer social at Camden Yards in August. It was a great night seeing you and meeting your family and friends. In just a few days we will host our annual sponsor appreciation event at Top Golf in Germantown, MD. I hope as many sponsors as possible will join us to celebrate your dedication to our chapter and members.

In efforts to align with the national Sports Field Management Association, MASTMA submitted a request which has been approved to officially change our name to Mid- Atlantic Sports Managers Association (MASTMA) doing business as the Mid-Atlantic Sports Field Management Association (MASFMA). Next, we will be working to revise our logo to reflect the change and update our tax status from a 501(c)(3) to a 501(c)(6), which is a non-profit organization allowing for lobbying.

Speaking of lobbying… I am thrilled to announce that MASTFA and the Maryland Turf Council (MTC) will be joining forces with our BMP advocacy efforts by jointly contracting Percy Public Affairs to lobby on behalf of both associations. Teaming up with MTC by forming a united front is an enormous win in the effort to make our industry the best it can be. Leading the charge will be Richard “Rich” Reinhardt who is a Partner with Percy Public Affairs located in Prince George’s County (Rich was previously a Partner with Z&C), MASTMA Board Member, Robert Navolis and MTC Board Member, Patrick “Irish” Coakley. A formal press release will follow soon with additional information. If you are interested in being on the MASFMA Outreach Committee that directs our BMP advocacy efforts, please reach out to Robert Navolis at [email protected].

There are several MASFMA Board of Director positions available for the 2023 – 2024 term. If you are interested in joining the Board and/or would like to nominate someone to hold a seat, please contact Jeremy Driscoll [email protected]. On behalf of the Board, we would love for you to join us!

It’s always a great time to highlight you and your crews’ efforts and nominate yourself and/or a peer for the MVP of the DMV Award. Applications are due by December 1, 2022 – better to be early than late!

Finally, MASFMA is relaunching our annual scholarship program. Applications are due by December 31, 2022. Applicants:

    • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university within DC, DE, MD, and Northern VA
    • Must have completed a majority of the degree credits
    • Must demonstrate an interest in Sports Turf Management

Wishing you all a safe weekend as we begin to feel the impact of Hurricane Ian and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been severely impacted.

    Sincerely,

    Nicole Sherry
