January '23 Greeting from MASFMA President
Hello Mid-Atlantic SFMA!
My name is Jason Bowers, and I’m your new President of the Mid-Atlantic SFMA! I like to first start by thanking Jeremy Driscoll and Nicole Sherry for all their hard work and dedication as our past two Presidents. I appreciate all you have done for the organization, and I hope to carry on the leadership and dedication you both have shown.
For those of you who don’t know me, I have been in the sports turf world for over 20 years now. I started my career at Virginia Tech as the Sports Turf Manager for Virginia Tech Athletics, then moved to Major League Soccer with the Philadelphia Union, and am now the parks system in Montgomery County, Maryland. I earned my Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM) in 2008 and am currently on the SFMA Board of Directors for Parks & Recreation. I have been a member of the SFMA for the past 20 years and this will be my fifth year with the Mid-Atlantic SFMA. I hope to serve our membership well and give you, our members, the best experience possible out of our organization.

As Nicole shared in December President’s Greeting message, the Mid-Atlantic STMA (MASTMA) aligned with the national Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) and we officially changed our organization’s name to the Mid-Atlantic Sports Field Management Association (MASFMA). Shout out to David Brown for coming up with the idea for our new logo, and the rest of the Executive Board for tweaking the design into perfection.
Let’s not forget this month we have the SFMA’s National Trade Show and Conference on January 16-19th in Salt Lake City, Utah. I hope to see many of you there! MASFMA will be holding a joint Mid-Atlantic SFMA social with our friends from the Virginia SFMA at the Beerhive Pub (128 S. Main St, Salt Lake City, UT) on Monday, January 16th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Please plan to join us! REGISTER HERE.
Our thanks the Maryland Turf Council (MTC) for another fantastic Annual Winter Conference and Tradeshow this past December at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD. This was the 47th annual conference, offering participants the choice of three educational tracks: Lawn & Landscape, Golf Course Management, and Sports Turf Management. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next MTC conference on December 12, 2023!
I am honored and privileged to serve as your President of the Mid-Atlantic SFMA. I look forward to working with all of you and I welcome your ideas along with the new MASFMA Board of Directors! I can’t say this enough – this is YOUR organization and without you, we would not exist.
