OCTOBER 2024 GREETING FROM MASFMA PRESIDENT

Hello Mid-Atlantic SFMA,

Thank you to everyone who came out to a rainy O’s game last month! I hope those of you who came enjoyed the experience.

October is here and it’s time to nominate board members! If you want to help make a difference in your organization, please sign up to be nominated. We are one of the top chapters in the National SFMA, and they use us as an example when talking to other chapters that are struggling. We have good people on the board now and would love to have more! All of the director positions are up for election for newcomers, so please reach out to our Nominations Committee Chair, Nicole Sherry, at [email protected].

Scholarship applications are being accepted through the end of this month! Please share the application link with any students in a turf related field. You can find the link on our website, SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

We are also now accepting applications for the 2025 DMV MVP Award to be presented at our Spring Education Event. Submit online through November 1st DMV MVP APPLICATION 

The MTC Conference is coming up in December 10th at Turf Valley Resort. It would be great to see some of you all there showing our support for the MTC.

Things to look out for this month, those with bermudagrass, it’s a great time to think about Spring Dead Spot application. Depending on what your using, keep an eye on those soil temps. Also, another thing to think of is poa annua germinating. Might want to put out a pre-emergent if you don’t want annual bluegrass in your Bermuda. Also, good to put out a pre-emergent for winter weeds on cool season turf as well!
