April Greeting from MASTMA President

Dear MASTMA,

Opening Day for many softball and baseball little leagues, recreation teams, and professional teams either has kicked off or will very soon. This is an extremely busy season, whether you are hard at work preparing sports fields or supporting our membership with products, expertise, and knowledge. Nevertheless, it is a perfect time to collect photos of your field for a chance to win the 2022 DMV MVP! You all definitely deserve the recognition.

In just one week, the Maryland State session ends. MASTMA’s legislative partner, Z&C, LLC has been an amazing support as we continue to advocate for our industry. I can personally say with confidence that we finally have a seat at the table. However, in order to keep our seat, we need to begin funding efforts specific to supporting our BMP advocacy work for 2023. Please reach out to our Executive Director at [email protected] if you would like to support MASTMA with these efforts. I highlighted much of what MASTMA did together with Z&C, LLC in last month’s letter; stay tuned for a final recap following the end of the session.

If you haven’t heard yet, MASTMA will host our annual Field Day on June 23, 2022 at Dunkirk District Park where Calvert County will get the opportunity to showcase one of its BlueMuda fields! Registration is open and while you are on our website, check out the calendar of events which includes the University of Maryland’s Shields Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament in May.

Finally, with college students beginning internships and/or seasonal employment for the summer, don’t forget to let sports field management students know that MASTMA wants to help them. Encourage those students to apply for the MASTMA Scholarship!
